Now in its third year and fresh off the 2024 Top HAT Award for Best New Experience, the Oppenheimer Festival transforms Los Alamos into a two‑week celebration of film, history and immersive storytelling.
Walk in the footsteps of J. Robert Oppenheimer, reflect on the atomic age, and discover the modern town that once changed the world.
Daily free programming, VR experiences, expert talks, and community tours make the festival perfect for visitors and locals alike.
Free Daily Programming
Each day during the Oppenheimer Festival, SALA offers complimentary screenings, VR experiences, and historical programs designed to help visitors explore Los Alamos’ unique story.
Morning VR & Films
Atomic Tree VR 360° and curated shorts offered three times daily 9:00 AM • 10:00 AM • 11:00 AM (approx. 45 minutes each)
The Manhattan Series
Watch the full award‑winning drama one episode each afternoon. 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Explore Los Alamos
Journey into the history of “the Hill” with two immersive audio adventures.
The Road to the Hill — Drive from Santa Fe to Los Alamos along the historic route taken by Manhattan Project scientists, soldiers, and families, with stories unfolding as you go.
The Festival Tour — Stroll through historic downtown Los Alamos as audio narration guides you past landmarks, shops, and restaurants, bringing the legacy of the Manhattan Project to life.
Prefer a live expert?
Join park rangers from the Manhattan Project National Historical Park and historians from the Los Alamos Historical Society for small-group walks through wartime laboratories, filming locations from Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and other hidden corners of the Secret City.
